I’m starting a newsletter called Surface Area.
If you like what I publish on LinkedIn you will enjoy it.
It would mean the world to me if you subscribed.
I tend to focus on fintech, media, management and leadership lessons from my three-decade career at Bloomberg LP and life lessons from my parents.
I intend to publish most days. The newsletter will contain content I don’t post elsewhere.
The issue I published today comes from my archives. It’s about my friend Richard Yamarone, a former colleague, who died six years ago today when he was 55.
It’s the first and only obituary I ever wrote.
Richard was a first-rate economist, with lots of hidden talents and a larger-than-life personality.
He was also just two years older than me and his death made a deep impression.

I’ve been writing on LinkedIn regularly for the past year. I decided to add the newsletter because it allows me to have a direct connection and lets readers sign up to receive it via email.
I decided to publish my newsletter on Beehiiv because I’ve met founder Tyler Denk and his team has created an incredible product and has a track record of steady enhancements.
I’m an evangelist for writing online, which has increased my own “surface area” and connected me to people all over the world. The more I write the more I learn and the more people I meet.
I appreciate all the support I’ve received from this online community. In the past year, I’ve gone from a few thousand followers on LinkedIn to almost 21,000.
That engagement convinced me to start a writing agency, Principals Media, that helps CEOs and executives write online so they can increase their own surface area.
