My dad has seen a lot in 97 years.

Born just before the Great Depression, he remembers the arrival of TV and now uses the Internet.

I asked him to share some wisdom this Father’s Day.

He cited three of his favorite sayings:

“Always play until you hear the whistle.”

“Never get separated from your skis.”

“There could be traffic.”

They make me smile because they are so familiar, simple and evocative.

They encompass three big pieces of life advice that are timeless.

Life is a game. It’s important to strive and keep at it until the contest is over. And it’s not over until the final whistle.

You need tools to succeed just like you need skis to get down the slopes. Always ride in the car that is carrying your equipment. You will need it.

Allot the time you need to accomplish your goals. Don’t cut it close. Plan accordingly. There could be traffic.
