The view from the office.

I met up with Adriaan Kolff and a friend for a walk in Central Park.

But this walk in the park was no walk in the park.

It was a seven-hour marathon that was part of Adriaan’s training routine for an upcoming charity event he’s organized called 24 The Planet.

The idea is simple: people get sponsored to walk 24 hours straight, raising money for a charity called Justdiggit that regreens dry and degraded land in Africa to help fight climate change. Over the past three years, the effort has raised 160,000 euros.

Adriaan, a native of Holland who moved to Manhattan three years ago, is the co-founder and CEO of a recruiting agency, Matchr. He recently launched a podcast called Leaders in Talent, that features influential voices in the recruiting industry.

He’s also passionate about the environment, which explains the origin of 24 The Planet.

This will be the fifth such event. Adriaan started the first during the pandemic with just four people. The last one – two months ago in Holland – saw 46 walkers raise 64,000 euros.

Some participants asked if they can extend the concept to other cities including Budapest, Nairobi, Barcelona and Munich.

The next event will be Sept 21st in New York and it will be held in Central Park. So far, a few dozen have signed up.
