Snoop Dogg announced today he would help support the US Olympic team’s efforts to raise money and visibility.
What was interesting to me is how he did it: via an exclusive post on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn isn’t the place you normally see a lot of celebrities or athletes break news. They are more likely to use Instagram, TikTok or YouTube.
But Snoop was something of a trailblazer when he joined LinkedIn two years ago. He was already huge on the other platforms, and he wanted to reach a different group.
His idea was to use LinkedIn to post content focused on:
— Leadership
– Philanthropy
– Creativity
– Business
– Elevating teams and communities
According to a friend who works on “Team Snoop,” LinkedIn makes sense for this announcement because the business community is a logical place to fundraise.
It’s also a reminder if we needed one that social media isn’t one or two sites. Increasingly, it’s a dozen or so, each with their own audiences and opportunities.
You can no longer assume that posting on Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram or LinkedIn covers all your bases. These days you probably need to add Threads, Reddit, Substack and BlueSky.
Snoop, who has 650,000 followers, made a huge splash as a commentator at the Paris Olympics.
The announcement said he will be visible promoting the team throughout the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina.
