The View from the Office.
I met up with Phil Rosen, co-founder of the Opening Bell Daily newsletter and host of the show, Full Signal, at Felix Roasting Co. just off Park Avenue and 49th.
Felix Roasting is probably the best place for a casual business meeting in midtown east. It has a spectacular, slightly elevated terrace with red cushioned chairs. You will be surrounded by i-bankers and PE bros doing deals.
I met Phil a few years ago when he was still a reporter at Business Insider. We connected online and that led to a coffee conversation in which he floated the idea of leaving BI to start a new financial newsletter.
That effort – co-founded with Anthony Pompliano – has led to additional initiatives including running ProCap Insights research and the show Full Signal, which recently taped its 100th episode. This coming week Phil will be taping one of the shows live at Future Proof in Huntington Beach.
Full Signal episodes typically run 40 minutes. The guests range from chief investment strategists at major Wall Street firms to leading portfolio managers The audience is mostly sophisticated retail investors. Phil said half of the viewers are under 44.
The metric that struck me the most was that more than one in three viewers watch on a television screen via YouTube. It explains why Phil doesn’t call Full Signal a podcast.
The big picture trend is that podcasts which were once audio only are now video interviews that are becoming programming consumed on traditional TV.
You can connect with Phil via LinkedIn or DM me for a warm intro.
