I started working at Bloomberg in 1990 at 505 Park Ave. We moved offices six months later. Everyone had to carry their own stuff. We came in Sunday afternoon. I brought a box to move across the street to 499 Park Avenue.
The company has changed a lot in the past 28 years, growing twenty fold to about 20,000 employees. We moved to 731 Lexington and I changed desks a dozen times.
When my group moved to a new office yesterday we were given boxes and pre-printed labels and detailed instructions to pack. Arriving at the new building three blocks away everything was all set up.
It was obviously more efficient and easier, but not as much fun.
