Three dozen MBA students from Columbia visited Bloomberg recently to hear me talk about changes in information technology in the financial industry.

I outlined five big trends that are transforming the news business: automation, analytics, machine translation, social media and summarization.

The talk was good, but I think they learned more about management from the social dynamics of the amazing Bloomberg food court, which is designed to subtly but effectively encourage everyone to mingle and collaborate..
