Bloomberg isn’t a start up anymore so we’ve started to take note of anniversaries of people who’ve worked for decades.
Editor Dave Liedtka marked 30 years yesterday. Colleagues in the news department gave him a cake decorated with the lead on the 1994 Orange County bankruptcy story.
I worked with Dave in editorial then and remember the story like it was yesterday. But it was clearly not.
Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait said 13% of Bloomberg’s current editorial staff wasn’t born when Dave covered it.
At the time Orange County’s failure seemed like the biggest thing ever and something that would transform the muni market forever. Now, it seems like an historical footnote.
