Long Island City is a boomtown in Queens directly across from the United Nations. A raft of new luxury apartment buildings have sprouted up around Gantry Plaza State Park.
At the end of a rolling green lawn and perched on a wooden deck beside the East River the city installed these marvelous red Adirondack chairs, the kind you see everywhere up at Lake George.
It’s charming and bucolic and you almost feel like you are in the countryside until you notice that the legs of the chairs are bolted to the dock.
The city, it turns out, isn’t taking any changes.
