One of the more innovative projects I oversaw at Bloomberg was the integration of on-demand translation from Google into the news platform on the Bloomberg terminal.

A few years ago Google made a two-minute video highlighting the effort and interviewed a colleague, Adela Quinones, and myself.

There’s a funny backstory.

For logistical reasons Google couldn’t film in the Bloomberg office so they replicated the look and feel of our office by furnishing a vacant space in midtown and hiring actors to sit behind us while they filmed the interviews. (Check out the accompanying still photos)

The footage was mixed with B-roll from Bloomberg and NYC. The editors did such a great job it’s hard to tell the difference.
