The View from the Office.
I met up with Carolyn Treasure, co-founder of Peachy, a startup that provides skincare, including preventive Botox, at her office in Manhattan.
Carolyn co-founded the company in 2020 with Eric Zhang. They first met as undergraduates at the University of North Carolina.
After UNC, Carolyn attended Harvard Medical School and did residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
The idea for Peachy was initially sparked by reading research during her second year in med school. She struggled with skincare treatments herself.
Carolyn realized that Botox could be used in a preventive way before facial lines appeared, effectively stopping dynamic lines from becoming static.
She and Eric liked the name Peachy because peaches don’t wrinkle and the fruit symbolizes longevity in East Asian cultures.
The company has raised venture capital to expand to 13 locations, eight in New York, two in DC and one in Austin. In Chicago there is one studio and another under construction. Carolyn said her goal in three to five years is to have 50 locations nationwide.
The clients are both male and female and tend to range between 28 and 40, though one client is in their 90s.
Carolyn said Peachy puts effort into the customer experience. She says she tries to emulate the feeling of hospitality delivered by the Four Seasons. She combines that with education and technology, including a proprietary AI system that customizes treatments.
Carolyn said that being a first-time entrepreneur requires being nimble and continuously adapting.
She said Peachy has adopted some ideas from Jeff Bezos at Amazon, in particular the no PowerPoint rule and the concept of an S team. She recommends Carmine Gallo’s book on the presentation secrets of Steve Jobs.
Lately, she’s been reading about evolution and quantum physics. Her favorite author is David Deutsch. She recommends his books The Beginning of Infinity and Fabric of Reality.
She is also a huge fan of the Founders podcast by David Senra, citing the episodes on Michael Jordan and anything on Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger.
You can connect with Carolyn via LinkedIn or DM me for a warm intro.
