Ever wonder what a “tweet storm” looks like?

Today’s chart shows social media posts on Nike surging at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night after Duke basketball star Zion Williamson’s sneaker fell apart.

Note the icon for the blue bird on the chart. That’s a Bloomberg social velocity alert that was triggered.

People tweeted about Nike until about 11:3 p.m. and then they (presumably) went to bed. They resumed the “storm” in the morning at 6 a.m. until it peaked about 8 a.m. The intensity largely tapered off by the end of the day.

The bottom section of the chart shows the sentiment for the posts, which was overwhelmingly negative.
