Search keeps getting better and better. I spend most of my work life worrying about how better classification and search can help us find the right information.
But I think we underestimate the insight that comes when search surfaces relationships and connections among vast amounts of personal data. And how that can give us new perspective.
I visited Lake George last week with my son and we took a hike to overlook the lake near Hague. I took a picture.
Later I searched “Lake George” among 35,000 pictures I have stored in the cloud and found a picture of my brother, sister and I in the same spot 41 years earlier.
I had forgotten about that trip. Forgotten how many times my parents had taken us to the lake. And definitely forgotten that Adidas T-shirts were a big thing in 1978.
