The shift in focus on coronavirus from China to Italy, the U.K. and U.S. can be seen in this chart of news intensity.
It’s a simple ratio of the volume of news stories about a country that mention coronavirus to the total.
I leveraged a sample set of content from among the 1 million stories carried daily on the Bloomberg professional terminal.
China spiked in January, Italy in mid February while the U.K. and U.S. continue to accelerate.
An unbelievable 50% of the news articles about the U.K. mention the virus. In the U.S. the ratio is approaching 40%.
