U.S. newspapers last week cited the sad fact that deaths from Covid-19 surpassed those from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The comparison to Sept. 11th had been increasingly showing up in articles in the preceding weeks as journalists sought to convey the drama and depth of the crisis.
As the scope of the tragedy has expanded, we are now starting to see references to World War II and the Great Depression as ways to understand what’s happening.
